Dark and Darker hit the scene on August 7th, 2023, and it’s been making quite a splash in the gaming world. With its spooky landscapes and mysterious vibe, this hardcore fantasy adventure game lets you create your very own character and explore different playstyles while tackling those tricky dungeons.

Now, here’s the question that’s been bugging a lot of players since the game dropped: Can you actually change classes in Dark and Darker? It’s a head-scratcher, especially for newcomers trying to wrap their heads around the game’s class system.

But we’ve got you covered. In this article, we’ll delve into the intricacies of Dark and Darker’s class system and explain exactly how you can change classes in Dark and Darker.

Understanding Classes in Dark and Darker

Before you decide to test your courage against formidable foes and treacherous traps, you’ll need to craft your very own character within the game. The good news is, Ironmace has streamlined this process, making it incredibly quick and hassle-free. Just locate and select the “Create Character” option.

Once you do, a character creation menu will grace your screen. Here, you will choose your character’s class and gender. Once you are done, type in a unique name for your character, and voila! You’re ready to take on the dungeons and all their challenges.

Different classes have different strengths, weaknesses, and playstyles. So you’re signing up for a unique gaming experience with each of them.

Different Classes in Dark and Darker

Currently, there are six classes in the game. You’ll need to know the basic rundown for each of them so you best decide which one to go with. Also heading into the dungeons alone is not a good idea. And if you take a team, you’ll need players with a versatile skill set.

Here’s a list of all six classes in Dark and Darker with a brief introduction.

  1. Fighter

First time in Dark and Darker’s captivating world? Then this is the class to go with. The Fighter is a sword-wielding, shield-smacking combat class. You won’t be able to cast spells though.

Other than that, you equip a total of four pets at level 15 and unlock more slots after every five levels.

  1. Barbarian

Want to deal heavy damage against scary monsters? You won’t find anyone better than the Barbarian. This class was built to fight with improved magic resistance and increased HP.

They’re slow on their feet but that’s a small price to pay for breaking down doors and cracking chests. They too can only equip four perks.

  1. Rogue

If you’re looking to master the art of stealth and operate from the shadows, then the Rogue class should beyour go-to choice. Plan your moves and your enemies won’t know what hit them. Side note: the class comes with a trade-off for lower health and defense.

But, you get to enjoy perks like Hidden Pockets, Lockpick Expert, Poisoned Weapon and more.

  1. Ranger

As is obvious from the name, the Ranger is a ranged class. Using bows and arrows to kill enemies from the distance, the Ranger can land some deathly blows. You can also track players and set up traps.

However, you won’t be able to fight with most of the melee weapons in the game. But the Spear should help balance things. Again, you can only equip up to four perks at a time. Enhanced Hearing which lets you hear footsteps in the game and Sharpshooter for lethal headshots are a few fan favorites.

  1. Wizard

The Wizard has the ability to take out enemies by casting spells with a spellbook or staff. This class can deal heavy damage in the midst of battle. But they have poor defense abilities so other players will need to step up and protect the Wizard.

With perks like Reactive Shield and Ice Shield, you can stand on your own as well.

  1. Cleric

The Cleric is Dark and Darker’s support class. But don’t underestimate the Cleric. They can heal and support other players with their abilities. Definitely consider having one on your team since they can make or break a fight.

However, the Cleric is good to play solo as well thanks to the Brewmaster drunken Cleric build. You can equip yourself with weapons like the Quarterstaff to make your way through enemies.

Overall, there is no best class in Dark and Darker. There’s no one-size-fits-all class here. It all comes down to how you want to play the game. Since each class has different abilities, you will have to choose one that suits your playstyle.

Rogue is quite popular in the community given the class’s stealth ability and poison effects. The Ranger comes at a close second with his ranger abilities. But at the end of the day, it’s all about finding what works for you and what doesn’t.

How to Change Classes in Dark and Darker?

Unfortunately, you can not change classes in Dark and Darker. You’re stuck with whatever class you choose in the beginning. You can create new characters but Ironmace does not allow you to change appearances at the moment.

Ironmace did give the players hope by promising to work on new features in the future. But we’re yet to see the game company come through on that promise.

Conclusion

All in all, Dark and Darker is easily climbing the ranks of the horror genre. But before you jump into the haunting dungeons of this unforgiving world, you’ll have to choose a class. There are six classes to pick from.

Since Ironmace doesn’t allow switching classes at the moment, think really hard about what class you want to play as.  You can try experimenting with a new class or stick to your usual playstyle. Remember it’s about having fun and not cursing game developers for missing out on basic features.

Happy Gaming!
